Fresno Woman “Wins” with ABC Supply
A California woman who thought she’d won millions in the state lottery, and then discovered that the local newspaper had printed the wrong winning numbers, still got her wish – a much-needed new roof and gutters – compliments of ABC-Fresno, Allstate Roofing, and Rod’s Raingutter.
When Elida Betancourt thought she’d won $54 million in California’s Mega Millions lottery, the 69-year-old retired fruit picker vowed that the first thing she’d do would be to fix her leaky roof. Apparently the newspaper had obtained its information from the state lottery’s website which was late in refreshing its results that week.
Branch Manager Mike Firpo heard about Ms. Betancourt’s lost fortune from his neighbor who asked if there was any way to get a new roof for Ms. Betancourt. Mike agreed to supply the roofing materials and recruited a loyal customer and good friend, Ryan Lee of Allstate Roofing, to do the installation.
The project was taken a step further by providing rain gutters because Ms. Betancourt’s home had none. Rodney Rich, of branch customer Rod’s Raingutter, agreed to handle the installation. “’Giving back’ is one of ABC Supply’s core values,” Mike said. “It’s pretty awesome,” said Ray Betancourt, Ms. Betancourt’s son. “We’re very grateful to everyone who helped out.”
